H maculata is also known by the common name Togo Starburst Baboon Tarantula or Ornamental Baboon. This is a fast growing Old World species. They are can be very fast and shy but are likely to bite if provoked. They have beautiful contrasting coloration of blacks and light grey to blend in with their habitat. This species of tarantula comes from different regions of Africa. 
 
The H Mac likes a dry environment with a water bowl. They are semi-arboreal and have a fast growth rate. They do like to web as well. They like 60% humidity and temperatures between 78-82 degrees.
 
Life Span:
Females can live up to 12 yrs
Males live significantly shorter life spans.
